Transportation
Most airlines divide their year roughly into seasonal slots, with the lowest fares between November 1 and March 13. Shoulder season, between the high and low seasons, is only slightly more expensive and includes mid-March to mid-June and all of October.

By plane
From Orly and Charles de Gaulle, there are 20 flights per day to Marseille and to Nice, 16 to Toulouse, and 4 from Monday to Friday and 2 Saturday and Sunday to Avignon. If you don’t want to go to Paris before flying to the south of France, you’ll find a number of British flights going directly to the Nice-Cote d’Azur Airport, the Marseille-Provence Airport, and the Toulouse Airport. Daily flights are offered by British Airways, Air France, British Midland, and easyJet.
By train
Train connections from Lyon and Paris are excellent. The TGV fast train gets you there in about three hours. Typical gateway cities include Aix-en-Provence, Valence and Avignon. From Avignon the track splits to go in one direction to Marseille and in the other direction to Nimes.
Get around
From these cities, one can easily explore the beautiful region. The best way to explore is by car or bicycle. The network of country roads and highways are easily navigated. With a village every ten minutes by car, Provence is one of those places where getting lost can work to your favor.
